TAINTED CHINESE DRYWALL REMEDIATION
Almost all reported cases of homes built entirely with tainted Chinese drywall come from the south, specifically Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Virginia. While these states may have the most recorded cases, over 30 states have reported at least a few cases. Furthermore, many states outside of the Southeast may have homes that were renovated but not entirely constructed with Chinese drywall. The fact that states outside of the Southeast have received less media coverage on the tainted Chinese Drywall epidemic may mean that many people are living with the tainted drywall, but don’t know that it exists!
If your home was built or renovated between 2004 and 2008 and is showing signs of Chinese Drywall , particularly a rotten egg odor, malfunctioning lights or smoke detectors, or visibly corroded copper pipes and wiring, call Bio-Clean immediately!
TESTING
Bio-Clean works with an accredited third-party analysis laboratory to determine if your drywall contains the chemical compounds that are present in tainted Chinese Drywall. A small piece of drywall is carefully removed, placed in thick polyethylene bags, and sent to the lab for chemical and organic analysis.
In addition to lab analysis, our trained technicians will insert a boroscope into your wall to see if your drywall backing is imprinted with the names or logos of any known manufacturers of tainted Chinese drywall.
REMOVAL
If laboratory analysis and manufacturer identification show that your property was indeed built or renovated with Tainted Chinese Drywall, the next step is to remove all tainted drywall. Our trained technicians will begin by sealing off any affected rooms. Negative air containment is used to trap VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds, in this case, Hydrogen Sulfide) and any odor given off by the drywall.
Our professionally trained technicians will then begin removing your tainted drywall. Once all the drywall is taken out, vacuums with HEPA grade filters are used to clean up any leftover dust and debris. The sealed room is then heated to close to 90 degrees. Most VOCs are released at 80-88 degrees. Any material with the potential to release VOCs will begin emitting Hydrogen Sulfide into the sealed room, while our state-of-the-art Negative Air Containment system captures the released VOC’s, and channels it to the exterior of the house. The still standing wall studs and surfaces of the affected room are then thoroughly cleaned with specialized cleaning chemicals. As a final step, a special VOC-locking, clear sealant is then sprayed on the remaining studs and structural surfaces.
Once drywall removal is complete, a certified electrician will inspect your home’s wiring to determine how corroded your wiring has become, and whether or not it needs to be removed and replaced. An HVAC contractor will inspect the condition of your air conditioning system. Life Hazard items (such as fire alarms, phone lines, and burglar alarm systems) will need to be re-wired or replaced as a safety precaution. Finally, a licensed carpenter will professionally re-install safe drywall in your home.
